Modeling the Prison-Industrial Complex

by estiens on May 25, 2010

I am looking for any models, particularly system dynamics models, that look at the phenomenon of mass incarceration in the US. I know Dennis Meadows was working on one model a while ago, but have not been able to track it down. Are you aware of any others?

Not a full blown model, but the Million Dollar Blocks project is a powerful way of illustrating the severity of the problem. The project highlights and visualizes the blocks where more than a million dollars a year is spent incarcerating the residents.

It’s certainly not modeling work, but the recent article on mass incarceration by the NY Times brings to light the phenomenon, the fact that it’s really quite recent, and the implications for fiscal stability of state and local governments.
